What are the acidifiers?

Acidifiers are organic acids used to decrease the pH of the feed, gut, and microbial cytoplasm thereby inhibiting the growth of pathogenic intestinal micro flora.

This inhibition reduces the micro flora competing for the host nutrients and results in better growth and performance of the chicken. They also act as mold inhibitors.

Organic acids have been used extensively for more than 25 years in swine production and more recently in poultry.

The antibacterial effect of dietary organic acids in chickens is believed to occur in the upper part of the digestive tract (Crop and Gizzard).

Various studies revealed that body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion rate, carcass weight, abdominal fat weight, abdominal fat percentage, intestinal weight were affected significantly by organic acid mixtures added to the feed or water. 

What is Avecid?

Avecid is the registered name of a family of Liquid Water Acidifiers based on a specific combination of Organic Acids. These organic acids have different revenue which improves the Animal Gut health.

Avecid is an evolutionary combination of organic acids, presenting unique features and benefits.Avecid is formulated for the best results with economic, environmental and microbiological advantages.

When Avecid is used, the growth of pathogenic bacteria, like E-Coli and Salmonella is inhibited and the growth of the positive intestinal bacteria is stimulated. By pH lowering effect of Avecid, a Stable gut micro flora will appear which can;

The Importance of Acidified Drinking Water

Intensive animal husbandry system maximizes the importance of the drinking water quality. Animal performance and productivity are significantly affected by the quality of available water. In poultry depending on the age, a bird’s body can contain between 60 and 85% water. A bird can survive for several days without feed, but can only survive a few hours without water. Water intake of the birds is about twice of the feed intake.

During periods of extreme heat stress, water requirements can easily quadruple. Therefore, a safe and adequate supply of water is essential for efficient poultry production. The risk of untreated water is heightened by the higher performance of the animals. Untreated water can carry pathogens like as E-coli, Salmonella, … and can lead to a disruption in the digestive and immune systems.

Avecid, as an alternative to replace the use of classical disinfectants, decreases the pH to stop growth of Pathogens and non-desirable bacteria. (Depends on the pH and hardness of the drinking water and especially when the best water disinfectants are not available). It also keepspipelines and drinking nipples clean and prevent Biofilm formation.

Avecid and Growth Promotion

Antibiotic growth promoters (AGP) are being used for the past five decades to improve the performance of poultry. The microbes can develop the resistance to these antibiotics and when transferred to human beings. It may pose a big problem because of the human resistance to these antibiotics.

Avecid may improve growth performance through establishment of low gastrointestinal pH conditions which support endogenous digestive enzymes and reduce undesired gut microorganisms.    

Avecid and Bactericidal Effect

 It is established through many scientific studies that dietary organic acids create an acidic condition in the GI Tract by lowering the pH which ends in bactericidal or bacteriostatic effects on pathogenic microbes.

Reduction in pathogen concentration with Avecid results in reduced toxic bacterial metabolites and competition for nutrients with the host, thus improving weight gain of the host.

Antimicrobial effects of Avecid can be explained by two mechanisms:                              First by a pH fall below 6 in the Crop, Gizzard and Duodenum, which inhibits the growth of pathogenic microorganisms.

Second, by the ability of the organic acids to penetrate through the bacterial cell wall in non-dissociated form and killing the microorganism. 

Avecid and Enteritis

Necrotic enteritis is an acute enterotoxaemia caused by gram-positive, obligate, anaerobic bacteria Clostridium perfringens. It is also a normal inhabitant of the intestines of healthy chickens.

The enterotoxaemia that results in clinical disease most often occurs either after a change in the intestinal micro flora.

By promoting the growth of friendly bacteria like as Lactobacilli in the gut, fewer places are available for C. perfringens to establish themselves.

Use of Avecid is very effective in the prevention and treatment of this disease.

Avecid acidifies the water and decrease the pH in the gut.  It encourages the growth of Lactobacillus while discouraging the growth of C. perfringens.

Contra Indication:

  • Do not use Avecid with other medications and vaccines.
  • In case of eye/skin contacts wash with water and ask the physicians for more help.
